Burmese script consists of rounded characters. That doesn’t mean design of a Burmese character has to be circular shape. There are several verities, but basically, circular, rectangular, chamfered rectangular (sharp or rounded edges) shapes and mixture of these.
Detailed custom font can be carefully designed using Opentype features when we never achieved with visual sequence fonts | ကြို့
Burmese is a complex script and developing a normal usable Unicode standard font is difficult enough. How about a customized and detailed designed Burmese font? Well, it’s a headache just by thinking about it but not impossible. Till now, most of designer’s Burmese fonts doesn’t make use of power of opentype effectively. Among opentype features, ligature feature is the most suited for complex Indic scripts such as Burmese and Khmer. You might notice that most of the time when f and i are type together as fi, the shape of fi significantly change by connecting f to i with the disappearance of dot from i. That’s the ligature replacement and that feature can be used for combination of 2 or more glyphs. Thanlwin font was designed only with this feature. It has more than 1000 glyphs ligatures for various combinations.
